The monastery of Grgeteg

After the tour of Hopovo, we continue to the monastery of Grgeteg. This female monastery is located in the vicinity of village Neradin. The legend says it was founded by Vuk Grgurovic ( Zmaj Ognjen Vuk). As for all monasteries it is not certain who was the builder, or the time of construction. The interior was painted by Uros Predic, it is unique because it was done in marble. In some scriptures it is said that the monastery used to be very wealthy, it had four mills, and around 200 acres of pastures.

After the tour of Grgeteg, we travel to the monastery of Krusedol, the most significant and important monastery on Fruska Gora. The monastery was raised in the beginning of the XVI century, it was the head of Serbian orthodox monasteries for 2 centuries. It was built by the family of Brankovic. In the year of 1710., Isaije Djakovic moves the remains of patriarch Arsenij Brankovic from Bec to here. After the battle at Petrovaradin in the year 1716, the Turks rob and set fire to the monastery, and desecrate the remains of saint Brankovic.

The manastira Velika Remeta

The journey continues to the monastery of Velika Remeta, which was founded by king Dragutin, after he fell off a horse during a hunt, which left him crippled. He left the rule to his brother Milutin. The monastery today is in good condition, on all four sides it is surrounded by rope and it has the highest bell in Srem.
