The monastery of Hopovo
We begin with a ride through national park od “ Fruska Gora” to the monastery of Hopovo. The monastery was founded by Maksim (Djordje) Brankovic. It was the head of literacy in XVI century. Dositej Obradovic, the first Serbian minister of education, lived here for 3 years.
The monastery of Grgeteg
After the tour of Hopovo, we continue to the monastery of Grgeteg. This female monastery is located in the vicinity of village Neradin. The legend says it was founded by Vuk Grgurovic ( Zmaj Ognjen Vuk). As for all monasteries it is not certain who was the builder, or the time of construction. The interior was painted by Uros Predic, it is unique because it was done in marble. In some scriptures it is said that the monastery used to be very wealthy, it had four mills, and around 200 acres of pastures.
The monastery of Krusedol
After the tour of Grgeteg, we travel to the monastery of Krusedol, the most significant and important monastery on Fruska Gora. The monastery was raised in the beginning of the XVI century, it was the head of Serbian orthodox monasteries for 2 centuries. It was built by the family of Brankovic. In the year of 1710., Isaije Djakovic moves the remains of patriarch Arsenij Brankovic from Bec to here. After the battle at Petrovaradin in the year 1716, the Turks rob and set fire to the monastery, and desecrate the remains of saint Brankovic.
The manastira Velika Remeta
The journey continues to the monastery of Velika Remeta, which was founded by king Dragutin, after he fell off a horse during a hunt, which left him crippled. He left the rule to his brother Milutin. The monastery today is in good condition, on all four sides it is surrounded by rope and it has the highest bell in Srem.
After touring the monasteries, we drive to Sremskih Karlovca. This settlement is known as the seat of Serbian culture and education. Today it is the seat of “Sremske mitropolije”. The poet Branko Radicevic studied several grades of college and wrote about this region in a few of his pieces. The tour includes the most significant cultural-historical centres. We walk the nicely decorated baroque-styled centre of Sremski Karlovci with the tour guide. We visit a vinery and taste vine. After the vine tasting we embark back to Novi Sad. End of tour.
